ROLE DESCRIPTION: VICE PRESIDENT OF PUBLIC RELATIONS*
AMA Birmingham is returning and entering a new era! This presents a wonderful opportunity to enhance or reintroduce the chapter’s image through its story, reconnect with the community, and reach a new audience. The Vice President of Public Relations, reporting to the President, is responsible for the chapter’s earned media coverage. The position will work closely with the VP of Marketing & Communications and VP of Community Engagement & Partnerships to spread the chapter’s story and messaging.

Specific Responsibilities
- Executes strategic communications while building relationships with media and community as outlined in Chapter Strategic Plan
- Lead the public relations committee and work with them to build organization’s media kit
- Manages public relations, working with sponsors to gain media attention and promote events in local publications and community calendars
- Collaborates with Board of Directors to connect and communicate with news and media outlets to promote American Marketing
- Association Birmingham Chapter
- Manages interviews with broadcast (TV stations, radio, etc.), digital and print media outlets
- Maintains the image and reputation of the AMA Bham Chapter, including recognizing the organization’s accomplishments.
- Write press releases and pitches about the organization and sends them directly to journalists and media outlets
- Attends events and builds relationships with journalists, speakers, bloggers and other influencers
- Works with special Awards committee to manage media surrounding the Magic City Marketing Awards**
- Conducts market research on the chapter and its messaging, as well the national American Marketing Association organization; works with VP of Tech & Data as necessary
- Expands business for AMA Bham by building relationships and a network of contacts
- Develops crisis public relations strategies

Commitment
- Serves 4 hours per week
- Attends AMA Birmingham programs and events
- Attends monthly committee Board meetings
- Manages and attends regularly pubic relations committee meetings (cadence to be determined)
- Participates in monthly communications committee meeting as necessary
Qualifications
- Active AMA Birmingham member (required)
- Degree in marketing, public relations, business, advertising, communications or related professional experience
- Experience with communications technology including email platforms, website CMS and social media
- Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills
- Outgoing, friendly, people oriented with strong relationship building skills
- Helpful to have ties to local media relations and groups/networks
- Ability to work cross-functionally, coordinating across a large, dynamic organization with multiple board members and committees
