ROLE DESCRIPTION: DIRECTOR OF VOLUNTEER ENGAGEMENT

The Director of Volunteer Engagement, reporting to the VP of Membership, is responsible for volunteer recruitment, management and placement as well as facilitating the creation and support of member communities.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Develops and takes ownership of the volunteer recruiting & engaging plan, budget and metrics reporting to engage a diverse base of volunteers
  • Manages volunteer needs and position descriptions/responsibilities as requested by Board members
  • Regularly communicates with volunteers and follows up on volunteer inquiries
  • Places volunteers in appropriate roles
  • Maintains volunteer status and notes in Google Drive & Asana
  • Manages chapter volunteer data, sharing with other Board members as appropriate
  • Motivates volunteers through recognition, sense of community and positive experience. Recognize, celebrate and honor volunteers. 
  • Identify ways to make volunteers feel connected and inspired by one another. Ensure every volunteer feels connected to our community and that they are getting the support they need to take action
  • Advocates AMA volunteer benefits to members throughout the program year
  • Plans and executes Volunteer of the Year award & monthly recognition awards
  • Thanks and recognizes volunteers, planning volunteer appreciation event along with sponsorship team
  • Assists with annual volunteer survey

Commitment

  • Serves 2-6 hours per week
  • Attends AMA Birmingham programs and events
  • Attends monthly membership call/meeting
  • Participates in monthly membership committee call/meeting

Qualifications

  • Active AMA Birmingham member (required)
  • Degree in marketing, advertising, communications or related field with experience in project management or direct marketing preferred
  • Experience with Asana preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Successful track record of building, motivating and managing a team
  • Ability to work cross-functionally, coordinating across a large, dynamic organization with multiple board members and committees
