The Birmingham Business Journal, whose preferred moniker by most in the region is the “BBJ,” is Birmingham’s Bible for Business. It is the “go-to” publication for anything relating to business dealings and operations, boasting a total audience of 28,000 with 7,000 print subscribers, and a morning and afternoon digital edition of approximately 9,000 subscribers each.
We had the pleasure of having the BBJ’s Editor, Cindy Fisher Crawford, speak at our October Power luncheon on “What News is HOT in Birmingham.” With her hands on the pulse of the business community, Crawford stepped into the role of Editor in 2007 and, along with her team, has since helped shape the Journal’s focus and scope which includes breaking business news, the Book of Lists (a book containing hundreds of listings of the hottest area companies in their fields by ranking), award events honoring companies, CEO’s, non-profits, entrepreneurs, emerging leaders and more, workshops and networking events. As Crawford stated at today’s luncheon, the BBJ is becoming “thought leaders” in the Birmingham business landscape, both online and in print.
Crawford gave us valuable insights into the BBJ’s rising impact on the business community and how businesses can take advantage of its many offerings to grow their business reach and bottom line.
Here are some top tips Crawford mentioned as being essential to getting your business in front of the BBJ and in front of your business’ target audience:
- Read the BBJ and subscribe to the weekly edition and daily emails to stay abreast of business news.
- Provide the BBJ with news tips of your business and/or clients.
- Attend BBJ events and network with other business leaders, including top CEO’s.
- Nominate coworkers and colleagues for exclusive awards.
- Become a sponsor and get in front of high level players, some of which you might not have the opportunity to approach on your own.
